Dear Amazing and ever patient supporters, on this International Women’s Day we, the team behind No More Page 3 want to introduce to you our next bit…THE SEXIST NEWS!!!

It has been more than a year since the dinosaurs over at The Sun HQ finally saw sense and (despite suggestions otherwise) dropped their topless Page 3 feature from the printed copy of the UK best selling newspaper.

After almost two and a half years of flat out campaigning, we were obviously over the moon, but also, as it turned out, we were really quite worn out. So we took a long break….well….we sort of took a break. Actually some of us never really went anywhere. A small splinter cell from NMP3 HQ began the blog ‘My Tights Won’t Stay Up’ to discuss stuff other than Rupert Murdoch’s obsession with boobs, but they couldn’t help themselves, they were drawn back time and again to how ridiculously the British Press treats women. So Iris Clot, Flora Cramp and Joan Fun began The Week in Sexist News to mock the absolute mind-sewage that is published day-in day-out. They took a hiatus at the end of last year so we could begin planning this merge of feminist forces.

Page 3 may be gone but the sexism in our press goes on and on and on and on…………. Women are presented still as stereotypes and sexual entertainment, from “nip slips” to “boob offs”, 50% of the population are ridiculed, belittled and largely ignored. Our achievements in politics, business, sport, art and well…..all the other amazing stuff we do, reduced to a foot note and a titillating image among multiple images and coverage of active and achieving men.

In short, there is still a lot to do and that our lovely friends, is where we all come in.
We plan to continue the work we began in asking for equal representation in our news media by relentlessly drawing attention to the sublime, the ridiculous and the sometimes downright dangerous.

To do this WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!!
So amazing people…your mission(s), should you chose to accept it is…

• To visit our website
• To read and share our ‘The Week in Sexist News’ posts every Friday
• To bring us the awful sexist coverage you see
• To point out the news about women that is missing from our newspapers
• To kick up a stink with us, let’s show the press and our politicians we mean business.

So…here we all are again.
You’d better watch out UK newspapers because WE ARE DOING THIS!!!!

P.S. watch out later for our ‘Best Of’ MTWSU The Week in Sexist News!

Nice to have you back, keeping up the good work. I’ve often wondered if Murdoch’s abandonment of page 3 was a cynically calculated move to push you into touch!
    Looking forward to your news.

This is brilliant news! Thank you for all your efforts. Women (and men) united will never be defeated!

Today, I saw that David Dinsmore, that man I tweeted and emailed A LOT during the no more page three campaign has been prosecuted for breaching the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act for publishing a picture of a 15- year old girl (with her face pixelated) who has just gone through a very high profile child sexual abuse case, in which her perpetrator (Adam Johnson) was found guilty. Said girl is legally a child, she is entitled to life-long anonymity, she stated in her victim impact statement and in cross examination how damaging the attention the case has brought with it has been for her, how she lost her confidence and got called a ‘slag’ and a ‘liar’ by tens of thousands of fans at football matches she previously enjoyed going to. I mean, for fucks sake, I am glad Dinsmore has been found guilty and will be sentenced, but why did he (and the team at NEWS UK) EVER think that was morally, legally or socially acceptable? What does this say about our press? All it shows is the contempt for children, women, and victims of sexual violence that is so embedded in our media. I’m disgusted. Really. So much work to do here!!!!

Oh hooray! I’ve had to endure sexist news for MONTHS without any proper sniggering or your most excellent swearing. Welcome back, please stay xx

Men, support these splendid women. It’s the right thing to do! If you think things are bad now, they were even worse in the early 1980s when almost all men in public life were deeply, astonishingly misogynist.

Now, most such blokes do not dare to utter sexist comments in the same way, but in private they are different. Keep going sisters and all you guys get behind them!

  12. 8th March 2016 @ 9:43 pm Katy

So glad that you are back to ridicule the sexist news so eloquently. Thank you.

  13. 8th March 2016 @ 10:02 pm Fran

I have missedTWISN so much – bring it on!!!

  14. 9th March 2016 @ 9:48 am Luke

Support you all the way, I can never understand why a ‘nip-slip’ is such a big deal, I mean almost everyone has nipples!
It appals me how sexist and mysogynistic the media is, everywhere you go there’s idoits belittling women, well I for one think that most women are 1000% more human than alot of men I have met.

  15. 9th March 2016 @ 12:33 pm Laura Necchi-Ghiri

Glad you are still going – the message is, clearly, RESISTANCE IS NOT FUTILE!!! In fact, it works!!
    – so lets do lots more of it, against media sexism, and against the neo-liberal consensus that conspires to keep women down, out of public office, in low-paid work and trivialised for their pains.
